Maximum Material Condition (MMC) is when the size limit of the feature of a part, results in the maximum amount of material for the part, the smallest hole or the largest pin are examples.
Least Material Condition (LMC) is when the is when the size limit of the feature of a part, results in the least amount of material for the part, the largest hole and the smallest pin are examples.
Measurements done with a micrometer
Micrometers are best for measuring the thicknesses of flat parts.
There are a few types of micrometers. One type of micrometer is the depth micrometer.
It is good not to overtighten the micrometer when measuring. Over tightening the micrometer will cause the measurement to be smaller than the thickness that is being measured.

Calipers are best for measuring round parts.
Calipers are good for checking the measurements of parts that are being turned in a lathe.

Measuring blocks can also be used for making measurements.
Measuring blocks can be made out metal or ceramic.
Different sized measuring blocks can be stacked to make a new size measurement.
Optical comparators are another measurement tool.
Optical comparators use a master pattern to compare the shape and accuracy of a workpiece.
The optical comparator uses optics, light is projected onto the workpiece, and the image is projected through a lens system similar to a microscope, where the image is magnified and projected onto a view screen. The image will be compared to a master pattern.
Laser-Tools can also be used for measuring workpieces.
